Extension of Former Gatehouse

This stone and glass extension replaces an existing flat roofed garden room, which was about to fall down. The new building wraps around an existing stone cottage that used to serve as a gateway to an estate, forming a sitting room, galley kitchen and front porch. A flat roof was chosen again as any pitched roof would have been overcomplicated and would have detracted from the original cottage. The stone, glass and timber elements were carefully crafted to match the existing whilst not copying it. High performance glass and good insulation values now make this space comfortable all year round. A timber patio will soon be completed to connect to the steeply sloping garden.
